Toronto’s 2022 St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Everything You Need to Know

Toronto’s 2022 St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Everything You Need to Know

March 20th is coming up and with it, Toronto’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The parade has been a tradition in the city for decades and is one of the most anticipated events of the year. This year, however, there are some major changes to expect. So whether you’ve never been to the parade or you’ve been a part of it for years, here are some things you should know about this year’s event.

What is the Toronto St. Patrick’s Day Parade?

The Toronto St. Patrick’s Day Parade is an annual event in the city of Toronto on March 20th, which falls on a Sunday this year. The parade will begin at St. George and Bloor and will be ending at Nathan Phillip’s Square. The day will be filled with music, dance, and floats all in celebration of Irish culture. After being cancelled for the past couple years we are very excited to celebrate one of the largest community events in Toronto and the largest Irish event in Canada together once again!

When is the parade taking place?

The parade will take place on March 20th, 2022.

What’s changing this year?

The St. Patrick’s Parade Society is asking all attendees to their events to follow the guidelines outlined by the City of Toronto guidelines in response to the coronavirus pandemic. These include: physical distancing (keeping 2 metres apart from other people), wearing a facemask (especially if you are in a situation where you can’t physically distance from others), and maintaining healthy habits (washing your hands with soap and water and taking advantage of the hand sanitizer available at their events).

What do I wear to the parade?

If you’re going to the parade, there’s a chance it might be chilly outside. That being said, wear clothes that are warm and comfortable. It’s not a good idea to wear anything too tight or restrictive as you’ll likely want to move around at some point. Wear layers so that if it does get colder, you can add or remove clothing accordingly.

There isn’t an official dress code for Toronto’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade, but it is important for spectators to be respectful of the Irish-Canadian community by wearing green and white attire or a kilt.

Who should I bring to the parade?

The parade is a great place to bring your friends and family, but it can also be fun to bring someone you meet at the festivities. There will be lots of floats, bands, and marching groups with lively music. The parade is also pet-friendly so don’t forget to bring your four-legged friends!

Where is the parade taking place and how do I get there?

The parade begins on the corner of St. George and Bloor St. West (near St. George subway station) and heads east on Bloor Street, turns south on Yonge Street, then turns west on Queen Street, and finishes at Nathan Phillips Square.

The parade will start at 12 PM sharp and the line of march lasts one and a half hours at any point along the route.

There is plenty of street parking available in the area, but we recommend using public transit to get there – the St. Patrick’s Day Parade route is on most bus routes!

If you take the TTC you can get off at the following subway stations: St. George, Museum, Bloor, Wellesley, College, Dundas, and Queen.

We also recommend leaving early as it can take some time to get through the crowds.

Once you arrive, make sure you’re wearing green so that people know you are celebrating St. Patrick’s Day!

Conclusion

Toronto’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade is the largest one of its kind in North America. With Toronto being one of the largest city in Canada it is sure to be a spectacular event that you don’t want to miss.

So if you’re debating whether to head on down to the parade or not, here are some reasons why you should:

– It’s free!

– It’s family-friendly!

– It has live entertainment!

– There will be plenty of green beer for those of age!

So lace up your shoes and don’t forget your friends or family members, because this year’s parade is going to be a fun one!
